Top with coleslaw and you have a fantastic BBQ Sandwich. This is one of my favorite pulled pork recipes and it is one of the easiest. The root beer really gives it a mouthwatering flavor. An onion, a pork butt, a can of root beer are slow cooked for 8 to 10 hours. The root beer not only flavors the pork but helps tenderize it.

Next all the liquid gets discarded. This helps prevent the sauce from being too watery. The root beer flavor has already penetrated the pork. Crock Pot Root Beer Pulled Pork- only 4 ingredients! Next, shred the pork, discarding any fatty pieces and add a bottle of your favorite bbq sauce.

Let it cook for 30 minutes and you’re ready to plate it up. You can use either a boneless pork butt, or a bone-in one for this Crock Pot Root Beer Pulled Pork. Place lid on slow cooker and cook on LOW for 8 to 10 hours. Shred pork and return to slow cooker. Cover and cook on HIGH for 30 minutes. This is the best pulled pork recipe! After draining and shredding the meat, I added about a tsp of chili powder, a splash of apple cider vinegar, and a little mustard.

Things I do different are to sear the pork in olive oil and fresh garlic before putting it in the crockpot and add a tiny bit of crushed red pepper. I use a mandoline to cut the onion so it is in slivers and add those cooked slivers to the pork after I shred. Additionally, I do not add the barbeque sauce to the pork, I let everyone top their own sandwich off with the sauce. Top it off with coleslaw and yummy!

I like to add pepperoncini’s, garlic, and black pepper along with a spicy bbq sauce and a non-diet root bear. Virgil’s or Henry Winehard’s are both good.
